heart of medieval Florence. The building is one of the oldest, in a
city which really only began its rise to greatness in the 11th
century.
The Cerchi family was one of the great Florentine
families of the 14th century, leaders of the 'whites' faction with
which Dante Alighieri was also aligned.
Via de' Cerchi intersects with Via Dante Alighieri, and Dante's footsteps still echo loudly
here - the house where he was born, the tiny church where he first met Beatrice, and more.
